Sauerkraut and Hot Italian Chicken Sausage
This is a fast, and easy meal for those week nights where you are just trying to get dinner on the table. Plus it's a dinner under $10 that can be served to the whole family.
Sauerkraut is a German word that simply means sour white cabbage. I used chicken sausage because it was low in calories. 110 calories for 1 sausage and Sauerkraut has 5 calories per serving. So very low calories for the whole meal.
It's even better for you if you make your own Sauerkraut yourself but I was in a rush for dinner tonight.
Interesting fact:
"In 2005, a team of researchers from Poland and the United states observed a substantially higher rate of breast cancer among Polish women who immigrated to the United States. They compared Polish women who were living in and near Chicago and Detroit with women who were still living in Poland. They observed that the rate of breast cancer was three times higher for the Polish immigrants. They evaluated various factors and concluded that the consumption of lacto-fermented sauerkraut was a possible factor in the different cancer rates. Women in Poland ate an average of 30 pounds of raw sauerkraut each year, while the Polish women in the US were eating approximately 10 pounds per year."

I just drained the Sauerkraut and warmed it up on low in a pan. Then I cooked the sausage on medium, covering them and turning them every couple of minutes. I cooked them total about 15 minutes just to make sure the insides were cooked since we are dealing with chicken sausage I want to make sure they are all the way done.
